Dear Redgrove family. I write to you all extending my deepest condolences at the passing of Uncle Sid. How can I sum up Sid in a sentence? I would say he was a monumental figure of a man who loved family and was larger than life itself. He and my father (Selvin Henry) formed a lifelong friendship after my father worked for Sid delivering car bumpers in the mid/late sixties. My father credited Sid with helping him to learn to spot weld, a skill that would later earn him a career at the Ford Motor Company. Sid was well known within my own large West Indian family and I recall my Parents 25th wedding anniversary when Sid came with Janet. It was like a Hollywood star had graced us with his presence when he arrived. All of the family were so excited to see Sid. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends we so pleased to see him and reminisce of times gone by. My everlasting image of him on that evening, was Sid, (having no doubt had a few rum punches too many) dancing the night away with that Smile that lit up the room.

Sid was a loving man who loved life and family. Whenever in his company, I only ever felt love. Towards the end of his life, I saw a softer side to Sid that made me love him even more. He and my daughter developed a very close relationship and would write to each other often. He really enjoyed reading of her school achievements and the twice yearly photos. He once wrote how he would have her pictures near the front door so that if anybody visited, it would be on the the first things they noticed as they walked in.
As he got older and found it more difficult to hold a pen, I know of how much he found it upsetting that he could barely write back, but he always did, even if it was a short note.
One of the last letters he wrote he attached a picture of himself. He looked so distinguished.

In closing, I would like to say this.

Rarely in life are you blessed to have a living angel by your side for so many years. God had blessed me, my wife and my daughter with your presence and your unequivocal love. For this, I shall be eternally thankful. I will love you forever.
