Running is a lot like Marmite to some people.

People will swear by it and others will swerve it.

But Norfolk is home to several annual running events and fun circuits for people of all ages and abilities.

So whether you're an experienced runner or a novice just starting out, here are five runs to consider trying in 2023.

 

1. Active Fakenham Easter 5K & Fun Run

Watton & Swaffham Times: Run Norwich  2022, 10K race through the city streets.

Where: Upper Market Place

When: Sunday, April 9

Runners of all ages are welcomed to join the fun this Easter in Fakenham when the annual run returns.

The race is run on a circuit in laps through the town centre.

Everyone who participates will receive a medal and children will also be given an Easter goodie bag.

People can also enter on the day if there are spaces until the races are full.

 

2. Holkham 10k

Where: Holkham Estate 

When: Saturday, July 8

Part of the Outlaw Half Holkham Weekend 2023, the Holkham 10k is a single-lap 10km event which takes place within the stunning grounds of the historic Holkham Estate.

Starting next to Holkham Hall, runners will follow the internal main roads and farm roads on a route that takes in the Walled Garden, Longlands, the Great Barns and the Obelisk.

The course is described as an "undulating route" with climbs that reward participants with stunning views followed by a fast descent to the carpeted finishing line at the back of the hall.

The minimum age is 15 on the day of the event and all finishers will receive a medal.

 

3. Run Norwich

Watton & Swaffham Times: Run Norwich  2022, 10K race through the city streets.

Where: Norwich city centre

When: Sunday, July 16

An award-winning 10-kilometre road race, Run Norwich is a popular event in the city's calendar.

Organised by Norwich City FC’s official charity partner the Community Sports Foundation (CSF), the run takes place in the heart of Norwich’s beautiful and historic city centre.

Run Norwich was voted the best 10k in the UK by the Running Awards and the route passes through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Norwich Castle, The Forum, Norwich Cathedral, and many more.

The first event took place in 2015, and since then tens of thousands of runners have taken to the city centre streets for the annual race.

 

4. Snetterton Race Track 5k and 10k 

Where: Snetterton Race Track

When: Wednesday, August 2

Snetterton welcomes runners of all abilities to its event in August to run a midweek 5K or 10K.

Runners loop around the renowned Snetterton Race Track on the tarmac traffic free roads of the race circuit.

People are invited to come for a great atmosphere and a personal best opportunity on a flat tarmac based course.

 

5. The Inflatable 5K

Watton & Swaffham Times:

Where: Norfolk Showground, Norwich

When: Saturday, September 23

A huge inflatable obstacle course is returning to Norfolk for 2023 and it promises to be "bigger, bouncier and better than ever".

The Inflatable 5K, organised by UK Running Events, is the largest in the world and it is coming to the Norfolk Showground, on the outskirts of Norwich, on Saturday, September 23. 

It will run from 9am until 2.30pm and it is for anyone over the age of five, with four different distances to choose from - 2.5km, 5km, 10km or 15km.
