A Norfolk radio station has announced it will broadcast its last show this weekend after a year on the air.

Amber Radio was developed during lockdown by Mike Stewart who previously ran Radio Broadland.

Launching on September 4, 2023, the station aimed to be "for local people, by local people" and to champion local voices.

It hosted many legends of the county's radio scene with the breakfast show hosted by Rob Chandler, previously of Radio Broadland and Radio Norwich.

On Facebook, a spokesman for the station said: "We regret to say that Amber Radio will be closing down on Saturday night.

"It's been great to be back on the airwaves on DAB in Norfolk and North Suffolk and also online, further afield."

The station included many other recognisable names such as Jono Woodward, Keith Travis, Tom Green, Paul Morris and David Hoffman.

A lack of funding was cited as the reason for its closure.

"After a year on-air, our funds, as a mainly voluntary group, are now unfortunately insufficient to continue in the current set-up and circumstances," the statement added.

Although the station, in its current form, will be stopping this weekend there is hope to continue broadcasting in a new form.

"We would love to continue, but that's not possible at this time. We can add though that we are looking at other possible options for the future and so hopefully, more about that in due course."

The community has flooded the radio with support since the announcement.

With 145 people commenting on its Facebook, one fan Mr Spooner commented: "This is terrible news, you’ve been our wake up radio every morning at 7. Not sure where to go now."

Another Mr Marples said: "Gutted. Sign of the times I suppose that nothing lasts long. Thanks so much for the time you have been here."

While commenter Ms Ryder said: "I am totally gutted to read this. I love Amber Radio! Listen everyday from 10am to 4pm.

"All the best for the future. I’m sure we will hear your voices on the airwaves again soon."
