A tornado warning is in place for Norfolk as heavy rain is set to fall across the county.

The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) has issued a severe weather forecast and warned that isolated tornadoes may hit Norfolk with the warning in place until 7pm.

The organisation defines a severe thunderstorm as producing tornadoes, hail with a diameter of at least 20mm or non-tornadic winds of 55mph or more near the ground.

A spokesman for TORRO said: "Showers and isolated thunderstorms are already present around parts of southwest and southern England and these will tend to move northeast through this morning, with other showers and a few thunderstorms developing inland via diurnal heating.

"The most likely area of this to occur is across southern counties in the depicted area, but as models are keen to develop rather widespread showers through the day, the risk is drawn in a broader sense."
