A yellow weather warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms has been issued across Norfolk.

The warning is in place until 10pm today and the Met Office has said that flooding and travel disruption are "likely".

Hail and lightning have been described as "additional hazards" throughout the day.

The forecaster says there is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and potentially hail, leading to longer journey times.

Some short-term loss of power and other services is likely, as is the flooding of a few homes and businesses.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Showers and thunderstorms will spread from the southwest, as well as developing over land, during the morning, lasting through the afternoon and well into the evening.

"While some areas will miss these, where they develop 20mm to 30 m of rain within two to three hours, with a small chance that a few places could receive 40mm to 50mm over a longer period - especially across the southeast of the area this evening.

"Hail and lightning will be additional hazards, with a risk of temporary hail accumulations in places.

"In addition, heavy showers and thunderstorms will be associated with strong and gusty winds in the south of the warning area at times with 40mph gusts possible."

A storm is expected to hit the country tomorrow and Thursday as the remnants of the Atlantic Hurricane Kirk bring strong winds to East Anglia. 

The Met Office has forecast winds to reach category eight gales along the Norfolk coast with Cromer set to see speeds hit 43mph in the early hours of Thursday morning.
