From pantos to a three-day Christmas market, these are some of the biggest and best Norfolk events happening in December.

1. Winter Wonderland Norwich

Where: Norfolk Showground, Dereham Road, New Costessey, NR5 0TT

When: Select dates from now until January 5, opening times vary

Expect fairground rides, a mini Christmas market, a covered real ice rink, a Real Christmas Tree Maze and Santa's Wonderland and Grotto. 

Food and drink will be served from alpine-style chalets, including Yorkshire pudding wraps, burgers, German beers and sausages, churros and crêpes.

2. The Cromer Pier Christmas Show

Where: Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre, Cromer, NR27 9HE

When: November 26-December 29, 2.30pm and 7.30pm shows

Expect West End production values, including an eight-metre video wall delivering impressive special effects.

The show, hosted by Olly Day, will feature speciality acts, powerhouse vocals, music and spellbinding dance routines.

3. The World Dumpling Championship 2024

Where: Mitre Coffee, 131 Earlham Road, Norwich, NR2 3RF

When: December 7, 10am-12noon

The word 'dumpling' was coined in Norfolk in the 17th century, so it seems fitting that a cooking contest is held here.

All types of dumplings are welcome, from Norfolk Swimmers to Nepalese Momos, and the 2024 theme is roots and shoots. 

Children can take part if accompanied by an adult.

4. Aladdin

Where: Norwich Theatre Royal, Theatre Street, Norwich, NR2 1RL

Follow Aladdin in a magical adventure as he battles evil to save his true love.

Expect colourful costumes, singing, dancing and more glitter than you could shake a magic carpet at.

The cast includes The Bill and Loose Women star Lisa Maxwell as Professor Bellatrix Bottomborough and Owen Evans, one-half of The Nimmo Twins, as Dame Molly Piecrust.

5. Christmas Circus and Water Spectacular

A dazzling extravaganza that brings the magic of Christmas to the historic Hippodrome Circus, featuring more than 60 world-class performers.

Hosted by the dynamic duo of Jack Jay and Norfolk comedy star Ben Langley, they will be joined by singing impressionist The Man They Call G this year.

6. Holkham Christmas Market

Where: Lady Elizabeth Wing, Holkham Hall, Wells, NR23 1AB

When: December 13: 12noon-7pm, December 14 and 15: 10am-4pm

Price: Free entry, parking in Holkham Park: £10 (cash or card) 

This popular Christmas market returns to Holkham Hall in December and an extra day has been added to meet demand.

There will be more than 60 producers inside the Lady Elizabeth Wing and outside in the festive chalets selling food, drink and gifts.

There will also be live music and street food vendors.

7. Jack and the Beanstalk
