Goal-mad Dylan Edge celebrated committing his immediate future to King's Lynn Town by smashing in his second double hat-trick of the season last night.

The 17-year-old signed a contract to keep him at The Walks until the end of next term just hours before the Linnets' under-18s welcomed Huntingdon. And the striker proved again why first-team boss Gary Setchell was so keen for him to put pen-to-paper on an 18-month deal by scoring six times in a 10-0 home win to take his remarkable tally to 23 goals in just eight Thurlow Nunn Youth League West Division matches this campaign.

Setchell, who handed the College of West Anglia student his senior debut as a substitute during Tuesday's 3-1 League Cup win at Barton Rovers, said: 'It's not often a first-team manager signs a youth-team player on a contract. But during my time I've been in the game he's probably as good a finisher as what I've seen at his age.

'He's obviously got a lot of work to do before he's a first-team player and he knows that. He's not too far away from having a few minutes here and there for the first team though. He didn't look out out of place on Tuesday and we could have a real star on our hands.'

The talented teenager joined his hometown club from Swaffham Town in the summer. He has scored in every youth team fixture so far as well as also bagging seven reserve-team goals.

Edge said: 'I feel over the moon about it. Lynn were the only non-league club I ever wanted to play for.

'Goals are all I want. That's what I thrive for. My target is to beat what I scored for Swaffham Under-18s last season, which I think was 24. I will have to be very patient and hopefully my time will come with the first team. I will try and go as far as I can in the future. The Football League is something I am aiming at.'

Lynn – who have the option of adding a year's extension when the hot prospect's deal runs out in 2017 – can now command a fee if another side wants to sign him.
